Fuck. Vice fucked over Naomi Wu (aka. SexyCyborg) and now her Patreon is shut down.
Great job; marvelous journalism.
Eat a bag of dicks.
@vagnes I'm trying to catch up to the news but I'm so lost. What happened?
@sharp Trying to wrap my head around it as well.
It seems like Vice was going to publish their article regardless of Wu's disagreement over that it invaded her privacy and that it was not what was agreed upon. When called out, vice "people" made her life shitty.
In effect, she got her Patreon shut down because she "allegedly doxed" someone on vice, even though I have yet to see what that particular information is.
In summary, Vice does not practice what they preach.

@sharp If you thought the doxxing of that guy/gal with the trump memes on reddit was bad, this is nuclear in comparison.

@vagnes I saw her comment, but I didn’t hear what vice did. What did they do to get her patreon shut down?
@jerry They sent a legal letter to patreon, and quicker then you can say meiguanxi (no problem) they put it "under review".
@vagnes did she (or they) say why and what the letter alleged?
@jerry Not as far as I can see. Only thing I found was a mentioned was:
@jerry "Other payment platforms require ID. Given that @Patreon rolled over and shut down my account with just a firmly worded legal letter from @vice I absolutely don't trust any not to do the same with my personal information if pressured."

@vagnes I went and read the feed. I understand that she set boundaries for an interview and Vice apparently ignored them, but I am not clear why Vice went to Patreon. That is the part I haven’t found.
And Patreon is not innocent either.
