This made made me wonder how long DFW has been known as the Metroplex. I knew it was called that in the 1980s when I moved to Texas the first time. Turns out it originated in 1972, so 45+ years.

I think the term is less used now? I'm seem to hear North Texas more often...

Coined in the seventies by a marketing firm Workin for the tourism board, as I understand it.
