Tinker @tinker

I’m done with iOS and Android (and android based forks).

I need a Dumb Phone or a phone with SailfishOS. Or something new.

@jeff @tinker
From what I've heard, older dumbphones are full of vulnerabilities and SSLv3, not sure about newer ones (if any exist).

Half of SailfishOS proprietary (actually it's visible-source but not Open Source).

There's also postmarketOS, haven't looked into that yet.

@Wolf480pl @jeff - Yeah. Not a lot of options, for sure.

@tinker on a related note an internet friend of mine is making a linux phone userland from scratch not based off android using cython.

@tinker Something that is not bloated and is not spyware incarnated would be indeed too good. But part of the "bloat" and "spyware" comes from the vendors themselves, that add customized useless apps and force them into your terminal even if you don't want them.

@tinker i recently ordered a gemini pda from their crowdfunding thing - hybrid phone / pda device with physical keyboard, intended to bring back the psion pda form factor. _supposedly_ will dual-boot an android build and a real linux distro out of the box.

@brennen - Yeah! I’ve seen this! Let me know how you like it!

@tinker yeah, the fediverse will get a full report, if not for a while - i think they've started manufacturing, but i don't expect to receive mine for some months.

@digital - Watching that one, for sure!

@tinker

Perhaps the other way round:
Sailfish ready for Xperia …

@stevelord - I havent... but I have this unhealthy distrust of Android in general. But I’ll have to check it out.

@tinker I have a deep seated distrust of google, but I also have a deep seated distrust of all the hardware OEMS and that apps I run.

@tinker Frustratingly, most of the LTE-capable dumbphones are actually running Android, too.
