Trump administration considering a ban on end to end cryptography.
Fediverse, let's recycle the old and tired horseshit we hear every time a gun ban is so much as mentioned. Ready? I'll start.
FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS.
IF YOU WANT TO TAKE MY CRYPTO, YOU BETTER COME ARMED AND SEND BACHELORS
IF YOU OUTLAW CRYPTOGRAPHY ONLY CRIMINALS WILL HAVE IT
@r000t I suspect this has a real chance of passing in the US and in other parts of the world. This is one of those few issues that seems to have bi-partisan support in the US.
Banning PGP didn't fucking work.
But seriously, how the hell do they plan on enforcing it, especially with that pesky Tim Apple running around, extolling the benefits of privacy?
@r000t I think it's a disastrous policy that will, at best, be selectively enforced. Enforcement, pretty clearly, will be levied at technology providers - Tim Apple, Sergey Google, et al.
@r000t PGP wasn't banned, though.
.... Oh right it was export restricted
@r000t right - we didn't want the baddies outside the US to "go dark". Now the baddies are, well... you get the picture.
WHEN SOMEONE USES CRYPTOGRAPHY, YOU ALL NEED TO USE BIGGER AND BETTER CRYPTOGRAPHY
government be all "nobody needs more than 1024-bit RSA"
FUCK YOU, I NEED 4096-BIT RSA TO PROTECT MY FAMILY FROM THE NEIGHBOR KID
